UAAP S76 | DLSU wins first victory; UP still with no wins

The DLSU Green Archers and the UP Fighting Maroons fought for their first win after losing their first match during the Opening weekend of UAAP Season 76. 

Green Archers' first five players are Thomas Torres, Almond Vosotros, Jeron Teng, Jason Perkins and Norbert Torres. On the other hand, the Fighting Maroons' starting line up includes Henry Asilum, Martin Pascual, Raul Soyud, Xavier high school star Kyles Lao and former DLSU Green Archer Sam Marata.

During the first quarter of the game, the Maroons paced up for the 14-2 run by the Archers at the first 6 minutes of the game. It ended with the Archers leading by 6 points (DLSU 24-19 UP).

At the start of the 2nd quarter, Almond Vosotros hit his second triple of the game. During this quarter, UP made 6 triples with Asilum's back-to-back-to-back triples. Sam Marata who played for DLSU for 3 seasons, shot two triples and a jumper. The first deadlock of the game happened after Marata's triple at 1:41 mark of the quarter. Despite UP's 25 points this quarter, DLSU still lead the game by 4 points (DLSU 48-UP 44)

During the third quarter, UP tried to keep up with La Salle. But, the Green team made it difficult for their opponents as they lead with 11 points at 71-60. Former high school stars Kyles Lao (Xavier) and Kyle Suarez (Ateneo) cut down La Salle's lead by 7 points. Jeron Teng shot 2 free throws. Suarez hit a triple with 22 seconds remaining for the quarter. King Archer Jeron Teng drove to the basket to end the quarter with 8-point lead. (DLSU 75-UP 67)

La Salle threatened to blow the game wide open but a three-pointer from Marata, his fifth in the game, kept UP within eight, 88-80, with over four minutes to play. But Perkins strung together four straight baskets to put the game away.
DLSU closed the game with a 12-point lead against UP. The starting line up of DLSU contributed with double digit scores. Jeron Teng and Jason Perkins scored 20 points each. Almond Vosotros added 15 points to his team, while the Torres duo scored 14 points each.

Former Green Archer Sam Marata scored a career high with 21 points for UP.
