The
Morayta-based squad win against their Archers last Saturday at the Mall of Asia
Arena. Last season, FEU and DLSU faced each other for the 4th seed
to enter the Final Four. DLSU won and entered again in the Final Four. For
their first matchup this season, FEU won in an overtime game against Archers.
Final score is 83-79.
The game was
unsurprisingly a tough matchup between last year’s 4th seed
contenders because of many lead changes along the way. To end the first quarter,
the Taft-based team made a 7-0 run to lead the game at 21-17.
During the
second period, FEU kept up with DLSU to bring claim back the lead with Belo’s
putback. Romeo made a pull-up jumper. La Salle big guy AVO scored with a
turnaround strong move to close the game with La Salle behind FEU at 35-34.
The La Salle
fans were all cheering as they feel like their team will win against FEU. Dela
Paz hit a triple with only 2:30 left in the regulation. However, the Archers
weren’t able to create and deliver their game plays, and were unfortunate at
the foul line. This gave FEU a chance for a comeback and was able to create a
15-2 run. Romeo led the run with 2 triples.
Archers only
made 50 percent from the free throw line. Jeron Teng was the top scorer of the
Archers with 25 pts and 15 rebs. However, he was unfortunate at the foul line;
he missed 4 of his 6 chances at the free throw line during the overtime.
Continuing
his consistent performance for the last 3 games, Terrence Romeo added 44 pts
with the help of former MVP RR Garcia.
With this
win, the FEU Tamaraws are now solo at the top of the ranks with 4-0. Green
Archers will have 2-2 record.
Quarterscores: 17-21, 35-34, 54-58, 75-75, 83-79
Final: FEU 83
– DLSU 79
