Still
playing without Team Captain Jeric Teng, the UST Growling Tigers won against
the last team in the pack, UP Fighting Maroons. The game was held Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta
Coliseum.
Veteran
players Aljon Mariano and Clark Bautista stepped up for their team with
combined points of 30. Mariano shot 8 of his 18 at the starting quarter. While,
UST guard Bautista dominated the scores in the last period to seal the game
with UST claiming their fourth victory.
On the other
hand, Cameroonian center Karim Abdul scored most of his points during the third
quarter. Abdul took advantage of the suspension of Raul Soyud, who was given a
game suspension after committing two unsportsmanlike fouls.
Only Joseph
Marata achieved a double-digit score after the game. Four players from the
yellow-clad UST finished with double digits (Mariano, Bautista, Abdul and Kevin
Ferrer).
On Saturday,
UP will play against UE Red Warriors while, the Growling Tigers will have a match
against their last season’s Finals rivals Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Quarterscores:
21-15, 35-31, 56-48, 79-69
